The Clocks
Author(s):
Carl Larsen
This is a comedy about four clocks: Alpha, an arch-conformist; Beta, who holds visions of greater things but is without the internal workings to achieve them; Gamma, with more courage than Beta and an antipathy for Delta, the last of the quartet, a real renegade in that he is the kind of a clock that is not afraid to think for himself, and whose actions during the play change the shape of time. A narrator introduces these clocks and records their actions from their first conformative "Tick, Tocks" to the gradual breakdown of all inhibitions, clockwise, to where they are "blooping, blinking and popping" in a most "clock-eyed" manner. The narrator quietly explains each change of action as the clocks continue their steady rhythm throughout the play.
